The Yanks
just closed out a 2 game series with the Athletics and out scored their
opponent 27 - 9. The Yankees had some great pitching by pitchers
A. Christner and M. Lovejoy allowing only a total of 4 hits during
the series. These kids of blue also racked up another 11 hits bringing
their total season stats to 101 base hits and a team total of 81 RBIs for
the season thus far. As we enter the final few games of the regular season,
the Yankees are keeping their post season hopes alive.
The bat
was cold for the Athletics but have showed remarkable improvement in game
play. These kids are outstanding and deserve the Sportsmanship Award
for this regular season. Look out next year though, they will be a force
to be dealt with. The Yankees salute the Athletics and their coaching
staff for an outstanding show of sportsmanship and team conduct on and
off the field.
Thursday, 05/08/03 Remember
that "spunky" White Sox team I wrote about...well they did it...to
us!!! The White Sox had a superb outing this evening against the favored
Yankee ball club behind some great pitching by R. Harbour. The Sox held
the Yanks to only one single hit, a beautiful double by B. Davis. The
games between these two teams have been close all season and we congratulate
the Sox for an outstanding performance this evening. (Sox 14; Yanks 4) Saturday,
05/10/03 Due
to Post Season Tournaments starting next week, team play was rescheduled and
was different than originally reported. The two top team played in 9:00
AM slot and the White Sox and Yanks went at it again at 11:00 AM. Today,
the Yankees were getting a little payback as the White Sox spoiled any hopes
of getting into post season play. However, today's victory by the Braves
sealed the Yankee's fate for this season. C. Rudorf took the mound for
the Yankees and delivered an outstanding performance for the Yankees giving up
only 3 runs on 3 walks and 2 base hits. Rudorf's performance included a
75% 1st. Strike Pitch ratio and a 65% overall Strike Pitch ratio....not bad
for a first outing against a pretty good White Sox Team. The Yankees
went on to win (Yanks 15, Sox 3).
Tuesday,
05/13/03 The Post Season
seeding for Fossil Park is now determined as the Diamondbacks defeated the
Braves on Tuesday night earning them the Championship for the 2003
season. These two teams will represent Fossil Park in the City
Tournaments beginning on Friday with the Diamondbacks as the No. 1 seed and
the Braves as the No. 2 seed. The Braves will play a regular scheduled
conference game against the Yankees season finale on Thursday, May 15, 2003 at
5:30 PM. Thursday,
05/15/03 The Yankees
played and action filled season finale today but fell short of victory to
close out their season. The Yankees and the Braves squared off in a
seesaw battle with the Braves prevailing (Braves 12, Yanks 11). The
Yankees, probably the best hitting team in the league, racked up 9 RBIs off 6
hits led by M. Lovejoy's single and double and B. Davis's two shots for
singles. These two kids had 3 RBIs each followed by A Devore with a
single and 2 RBIs. Other contributors included S. Higgins with a single
and P. Stevens with a sacrifice hit for an RBI. M. Lovejoy and A. Devore
both scored additional runs on steals to home plate on passed balls.
Yes, the hitting was there but the pitching staff just couldn't hold off the
Braves in the final inning of play as they came from behind and sealed another
victory this season. Thank you Yankees for a thrilling season of play
this year.
